Tsinghua International Alumni
In December 1950, 14 students from Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary were enrolled into Tsinghua University, followed by 19 students from Poland, Czech Slovakia and Hungary in 1951. These 33 students were regarded as the first group of foreign students studying in new China. They studied at Tsinghua University in the Chinese Language Class for Exchange Students from East Europe, and then transferred to Peking University in September 1952.
In the past six decades, Tsinghua University has enrolled a total of more than 20,000 international students from over 170 countries. Some of them studied at Tsinghua for academic degrees, and some took courses or performed research as visiting students. The Tsinghua Garden campus has witnessed the beautiful, vigorous youthfulness of these foreign students, and the Tsinghua Mottos of Self-discipline and Social Commitment have also been imprinted on their mind.
