2. Tsinghua-MIT International MBA Program Overview

The Tsinghua International MBA Program is a collaborative program between Tsinghua School of Economics and Management (SEM) and MIT Sloan School of Business. The program was launched in September 1997. To date, over 1,300 alumni (over 7,200 MBA graduates of Tsinghua SEM) have graduated from the program and are playing an important role in the management of companies in China and around the world. This program is a full-time, two-year, English-taught program. Students will obtain an MBA degree from Tsinghua University as well as a certificate from MIT Sloan upon graduation.

5. Credit Requirements & Curriculum Design

1. Credit Requirements

The education includes three parts: course study, required activities, and graduation case report. To obtain the degree of Master of Business Administration at Tsinghua University, every student is required to obtain not less than 54 credits, including:

  • 39 credits of required courses, including 31 credits of degree courses;
  • 2 credits of required activities;
  • Not less than 13 credits of elective courses, including not less than 7 credits of English-instructed non-language elective courses (elective courses taken at other departments/schools cannot exceed 6 credits).

Notes

1. Required Activities

1) Academic Activities

All International MBA candidates are required to attend at least 10 academic lectures and / or seminars before graduation. The length of not less than 500 Chinese Characters/250 English words is required for each lecture/seminar summary. Students need to fill out the record form, get it signed by their supervisors and submit the completed form to MBA Academic Services Office 3 months before oral defense application.

2) International Management Seminar

All International MBA candidates are required to attend a series of lectures delivered by MIT professors and pass the final assessment before graduation.

2. Integrative Practical Project

The projects involve several tracks: Business Plan and Design; Management Consulting; Management Innovation in the Information Era, etc. Students will select one out of the three tracks based on their interests, complete course learning and practical activity, and pass final assessment to obtain credits.

3.  Graduation Case Report

Graduation report is a case analysis report from continuous independent in-depth research and study under the supervision of professor after the integrative practice project or a graduation case report from independent real-world data collection and study.

  • An MBA degree can only be granted after the oral defense and approval from academic degree accreditation committee.
  • Graduation case report requires substantive and practical content and following the written norm. (Please refer to writing guide)
  • Chinese mainland students must write graduation case report in Chinese; Students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and international students are allowed to write graduation case report in English.
  • Applies for oral defense with the approval of supervisor after completion of graduation case report.

4. Others

1)  Students are required to finish all course work within the first 8 weeks in the last semester.

2)  International students who have HSK 8 certificate or has passed the Chinese Language test for Chinese course exemption organized by International Chinese Language & Culture Center at Tsinghua University can apply for exemption from taking the Chinese language course.

3)  International students can obtain 2 credits from Chinese language course only after they pass the course no matter what level is.

4)  Some electives are taught by visiting professors so please refer to course schedule released at the beginning of each semester for detailed class time.

8. How to apply

A completed application should include ALL of the following items:

  • Two recommendation letters submitted by reference

2. Official GMAT score report:

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) administered by the Education Testing Service (ETS) can be taken in China or in many other cities throughout the world. GMAT scores are valid for five years. Scores from tests taken 5 years by the time the program starts will not be accepted. To obtain more information and register for the test, visit www.mba.com.

4. Interview

Selected candidates will be invited to Beijing for an interview at our school on a rolling basis. Video or phone interview can also be arranged. The interview provides an opportunity for the faculty to evaluate the analytical and interpersonal abilities of applicants, as well as their managerial and leadership potential.

Candidates will be notified about the admission decision by email and status will also be updated in the admission system. Your timely response is expected and also a list of official and notarized documents (The degree certificate and transcript must be officially sealed) are requested to mail to our office before the date indicated with our acceptance offer. The official acceptance letter and student visa application form (JW202) will be sent out in June.
